How Do I Get My Ticket?
It is no longer common practice for airlines to send paper tickets. In order to "go green" and also save money on paper, electronic tickets are the norm. Let's cut to the chase:
How do I get my ticket?
Your travel agent sent you an electronic confirmation by email. This document has your flight itinerary and confirmation code. Print out this document if you wish. You take this document to the airport as your "ticket."
Option A
About 24 to 48 hours before departure, depending on the airline, go to the airline website. Click on the option to "Check In." There, you will type in your last name and the confirmation code to check in. You have the option of printing out your boarding pass or having it sent to your smartphone as your boarding pass.
Option B
Locate an e-ticket kiosk for your airline after you arrive at the airport. You can usually find one in the airport lobby or near your airline's ticket counter. Occasionally, airlines have kiosks adjacent to departure gates. Enter your confirmation code, using the kiosk’s touch-screen system. If you’ve forgotten to bring your confirmation number, the kiosk will ask you to enter other information, such as your name, departure city and flight time. Once you’ve input your information, the kiosk will print your boarding pass.
Option C
Head to the ticket counter, if you’d rather not use a kiosk. The agent will ask you for your name, destination and the approximate time of your flight. Be prepared to show your photo ID. Have your confirmation number ready in case the agent is unable to locate you in the system. After the agent has confirmed your seat, she’ll print your boarding pass.
Option D
Take your luggage and boarding pass to the e-ticket express baggage line, where an agent will check your bags. You’ll have to show your ID here as well.
