Places to Stay
(let's avoid the cheap and messed up places, shall we? Anything under $40/night is bad, unless you're going in the winter. Even as a poor college student, don't spend your vacation in a cheap motel or hostel. That's for backpacking in Europe.)
Just from my own experience, all inclusive plans (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks) do save money on meals, but seriously, I don't want to have all my meals at the hotel! After included breakfast at the hotel, I want to venture out. There are great places for drinking by the beach, taco stands, and really nice restaurants too. So instead of spending money on an all-inclusive plan, I'd rather spend that money on food outside the hotel. But if you really want, just add about $80/day for the hotel rates.
FLIGHT+HOTEL PACKAGE ON SALE RIGHT NOW:
Barcelo Tucancun Beach Hotel - right on the beach, all-inclusive hotel package which includes all meals + drinks at the bar.
email me for rate from your departure city.
Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas, also on the beach, is very classy, but more expensive.
Viva Windham Maya Hotel is even more expensive, but it's in a quieter beach Playa Del Camen, and it's away from the party scene. This is for the older vacationers, not Spring Breakers.
The following prices are for 4-people groups, and for comparison purposes only for spring. Smaller 2-person rooms would be less than half the cost.
THE BEST - but not the most expensive - Le Blanc Spa Resort - $1426/night for 4 people. If you got money, this is where to spend it.
MY CHOICE - Barcelona Tower Suite Hotel - $135 for 2 bedroom suite, $189 for 3 bedroom suite
Best Cheap Choice - Suites Sina Cancun, Quetzal 33 Club De Golf - $54 for 4 cramped people, or $160 for 4 people - 4 king beds in 2 bedrooms overlooking balcony
Bel Air Collection Spa Resort - Resort on the beach! Deluxe double bed room for 4 people, right on the beach, free breakfast - $136/night (or $211/night for all-inclusive)
Krystal Grand Punta, $231/night - a better beach and close to the nightlife
Bel Air Double Room
Krystal Grand Punta

From the Airport
Airport is just south of Hotel Zone.
Change some money at the ATM of Citybank or Electra.
As soon as you clear customs, stay away from all the swindlers who are offering deals. There's a taxi kiosk for legit taxis, $50 to Hotel Zone.
or go the cheaper way:
ADO or Riviera bus
From Terminal 2 turn right and go past the building to the other side. The bus parking lot is just beyond the access road going back out. At Terminal 3 the bus stop is in the bus parking lot, past the 'Air Margaritaville' bar (in a hut) to the right when coming out of the doors. In both locations there should be an attendant at an 'ADO' podium in front of the stall to buy the tickets
Taxi bus station to hotel zone is about $20-$25. or catch the R1 or R01 bus going south along Av Tulum (main road next to the bus station) to the hotel zone for MXN8
Or better option: I could arrange a driver van to pick up your whole group to your hotel resort.
Getting Around
The best way to travel here is by buses. Very easy to navigate, and they're very cheap and fast.
If you're going to rent your own car, remember to carry some "bribe money" (called mordida) for the cops, because they will pull you over for nothing, and you give them $20 to let you go. Also, getting car insurance is required by law.
Taxis
$20 within downtown.
March 20-27, 2016 is prime time, starting as low as $450 for roundtrip tickets.
It's never too early to plan your spring break, cuz then you HAVE to do it, and not let anything get in the way!
LET'S MAKE SOME RESERVATIONS AND PUT THIS ON THE CALENDAR!
